Ce timbre est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 par plusieurs comme \u00e9tant le plus rare et le plus d\u00e9sirable au monde. Si on se fit au prix r\u00e9alis\u00e9, ce timbre est d\u00e9finitivement le plus cher, car il vient tout juste d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir un nouveau record mondial.<\/p>\n<p>La somme faramineuse de $9.48 millions US fut l&rsquo;offre gagnante. L&rsquo;acheteur a plac\u00e9 son offre par t\u00e9l\u00e9phone et a choisi de garder l&rsquo;anonymat. <!--more-->Bien que son identit\u00e9 soit toujours inconnue, l&rsquo;encanteur M. Redden a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;\u00e9tant donn\u00e9 l&rsquo;acheteur on risquait de revoir le timbre en exposition \u00e0 l&rsquo;avenir. Et lorsque demand\u00e9 si l&rsquo;acheteur \u00e9tait un investisseur ou un collectionneur il a r\u00e9pondu un collectionneur sans h\u00e9sit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Le timbre fut vendu au nom de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritage de son pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent propri\u00e9taire John E. du Pont. Le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre collectionneur est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 en prison en 2010, en purgeant sa peine de meurtre vis-\u00e0-vis son ancien ami et champion olympique de lutte Dave Schultz. Une partie des profits de l&rsquo;encan fut donn\u00e9e en charit\u00e9. Du Pont avait acquis le timbre en 1980 pour la somme de $935,000, qui repr\u00e9sentait aussi un record \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n<p>Le timbre\u00a01\u00a2 magenta de Guyane s&rsquo;est vendu presque exactement\u00a010 fois plus qu&rsquo;en 1980. M\u00eame en ajustant avec\u00a0l&rsquo;inflation, le timbre a rapport\u00e9 plus du double qu&rsquo;en 1980, un bon investissement! Le record pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent appartenait \u00e0 un timbre de su\u00e9dois de 1855 qui s&rsquo;est vendu pour $2.3 millions en 1996. Sotheby&rsquo;s estimait vendre le timbre entre 10 et 20 millions, qui est assez pr\u00e8s du $9.48 millions r\u00e9alis\u00e9.
