Les timbres fiscaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s par les diff\u00e9rents gouvernements et autres organismes publics \u00e0 travers le monde et le sont encore aujourd\u2019hui dans quelques pays.

\nMalgr\u00e9 que les timbres fiscaux ressemblent aux timbres postes, ils ne servent pas \u00e0 affranchir le courrier et ne re\u00e7oivent donc pas d\u2019oblit\u00e9ration postale. Cependant les timbres postaux peuvent recevoir une autre forme d\u2019oblit\u00e9ration, sous une des trois formes suivantes; de type manuscrite (souvent assortie d\u2019une date), par un tampon manuel identifiant l\u2019agent de perception (\u00e9galement souvent avec date) ou encore faite par un poin\u00e7on.<\/p>\n

On peut les retrouver sur de vieux ch\u00e8ques, passeports, testaments, contrats de ventes, hypoth\u00e8ques, permis de chasse, certificats d\u2019actions, documents de guerre, re\u00e7us de bijoux, produits du tabac, boissons, m\u00e9dicaments, cartes de jeux, mandats postes, papiers l\u00e9gaux… En fait la liste est longue. Fouiller parmi les vieilles archives familiales pourrait se r\u00e9v\u00e9ler passionnant et m\u00eame payant!

\nL\u2019utilisation des timbres fiscaux a d\u00e9but\u00e9 bien avant l\u2019usage des timbres postes<\/a>. Il est tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant de noter que les premiers timbres fiscaux furent introduits en Am\u00e9rique du Nord par les Britanniques, lors du \u00ab Stamp Act \u00bb de 1765 qui \u00e9tablissait que dans les colonies am\u00e9ricaines, tous les documents, permis, contrats commerciaux, journaux, testaments, livres et cartes \u00e0 jouer devaient \u00eatre munis d’un timbre fiscal. Il suscita une grande animosit\u00e9 de la part des colons am\u00e9ricains et ne fut gu\u00e8re appliqu\u00e9. Plusieurs collecteurs de taxe furent menac\u00e9s d\u2019\u00eatre pass\u00e9s au goudron et aux plumes. Cette mesure tr\u00e8s impopulaire raviva le mouvement qui r\u00e9sulta dans la Guerre d\u2019Ind\u00e9pendance aux \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
