Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019un timbre-poste? Il y a tr\u00e8s longtemps, en Angleterre, lorsqu\u2019une lettre \u00e9tait re\u00e7ue, il fallait payer pour la livraison. Souvent, la lettre coutait tr\u00e8s cher, les gens n\u2019avaient pas beaucoup d\u2019argent et parfois il ne savait m\u00eame pas de qui provenait la lettre, donc il refusait de payer et de la recevoir. Plusieurs personnes trouvaient cela injuste, donc, quelqu\u2019un a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de changer la fa\u00e7on dont la poste fonctionne. Il s’appelait Rowland Hill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

M.\u00a0Hill a invent\u00e9 le timbre-poste \u2014 un petit morceau de papier que la personne envoyant la lettre pouvait acheter et coller sur son enveloppe pour prouver que le co\u00fbt de la livraison avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 pay\u00e9. Les premiers timbres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9mis en 1840<\/strong> et co\u00fbtaient seulement 1\u00a0\u00a2. Le premier timbre s\u2019appelle le \u00ab\u00a0Penny Black\u00a0\u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Malheureusement, certains individus malhonn\u00eates ont eu l\u2019id\u00e9e de r\u00e9utiliser les timbres usag\u00e9s, en les collant \u00e0 nouveau sur leurs envois, plut\u00f4t que de racheter un timbre. \u00c7a s\u2019appelle de la fraude postale et c\u2019est toujours ill\u00e9gal de nos jours. Pour \u00e9viter les malfaiteurs, les bureaux de poste ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 oblit\u00e9rer les timbres. C\u2019est-\u00e0-dire, lorsqu\u2019un timbre est utilis\u00e9 pour poster une enveloppe, il est \u00e9tamp\u00e9 ou marqu\u00e9 au feutre. Cette marque est appel\u00e9e oblit\u00e9ration<\/strong> ou cancellation, et signifie que le timbre a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Les premiers timbres \u00e9taient imprim\u00e9s et \u00e9mis sans colle, ou gomme. Les gens devaient appliquer la colle eux-m\u00eames afin de coller le timbre \u00e0 l\u2019enveloppe. Plus tard, les timbres ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre \u00e9mis avec de la colle (gomme). Il suffit d\u2019humecter la colle en lichant l\u2019endos du timbre. Nous avons encore ce genre de timbre aujourd\u2019hui. Par contre, plusieurs timbres modernes n\u2019exigent m\u00eame pas qu\u2019on les l\u00e8che, car leur gomme est auto-adh\u00e9sive, le timbre se colle sur une enveloppe comme un collant.<\/p>\n

\u00c9ventuellement, les autres pays ont eux aussi adopt\u00e9 les timbres-poste. Le premier timbre du Canada a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9mis en 1851 et s\u2019appelle le \u00ab\u00a0castor 3 pence\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong>. Le timbre est rouge avec l\u2019image d\u2019un castor. C\u2019est un timbre tr\u00e8s rare et parfois d\u2019une tr\u00e8s grande valeur — plusieurs milliers si le timbre est en tr\u00e8s bel \u00e9tat!<\/p>\n

Les timbres existent depuis longtemps et sont une partie importante de notre culture et de notre histoire. Qui sait quels tr\u00e9sors tu pourrais d\u00e9couvrir!
