En faisant des recherches pour cet article, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tonn\u00e9 de d\u00e9couvrir toutes les diff\u00e9rentes sortes de papier de timbres qui existent! Tout d\u2019abord, il faut un mat\u00e9riel brut; en r\u00e8gle g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, le papier est fait \u00e0 base de produits de bois, tels des copeaux. Par contre, on peut aussi y ajouter des morceaux de tissus en lin, du coton, ou des gramin\u00e9es comme le papyrus, la paille et le chanvre. Peu importe le mat\u00e9riel brut, pour devenir de la p\u00e2te de papier, il doit \u00eatre transform\u00e9 en fibres de cellulose. La cellulose est un composant de presque toute mati\u00e8re v\u00e9g\u00e9tale et on peut l\u2019extraire m\u00e9caniquement, ou par l\u2019usage de produits chimiques.<\/p>\n<p>Les fibres de cellulose doivent \u00eatre broy\u00e9es finement et ensuite on y ajoute de l\u2019eau pour obtenir de la p\u00e2te de papier. C\u2019est \u00e0 cette \u00e9tape du processus que les producteurs de papier peuvent ajouter d\u2019autres ingr\u00e9dients afin d\u2019impr\u00e9gner des caract\u00e9ristiques particuli\u00e8res au produit final. Par exemple, la p\u00e2te peut \u00eatre blanchie pour obtenir du papier blanc, ou bien on peut y ajouter du colorant pour un papier color\u00e9. Pour renforcer le papier, afin d\u2019obtenir un papier r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 l\u2019eau et moins absorbant, les producteurs ajoutent aussi un appr\u00eat de colle. Un tel appr\u00eat peut contenir des amidons, des colles diff\u00e9rentes et des g\u00e9latines. Un appr\u00eat de colle est n\u00e9cessaire si on veut \u00eatre capable d\u2019imprimer correctement sur le papier fini. La p\u00e2te est \u00e9tal\u00e9e uniform\u00e9ment sur des grillages qui permettent \u00e0 l\u2019eau de s\u2019\u00e9goutter, laissant derri\u00e8re une fine couche de p\u00e2te sur la grille pr\u00eate \u00e0 \u00eatre press\u00e9e. Apr\u00e8s le pressage, le papier doit \u00eatre s\u00e9ch\u00e9. La plupart des papiers modernes sont fabriqu\u00e9s m\u00e9caniquement sur des machines \u00e0 papiers et peuvent \u00eatre form\u00e9s en grands rouleaux continus, tandis qu\u2019un papier fait \u00e0 la main doit \u00eatre fabriqu\u00e9 feuille par feuille.
