On July 2nd, 2010, Canada Post began issuing two stamps commemorating Montreal artist and painter, Efa Prudence Heward (1896-1947). Prudence would grow up to become an acclaimed artist and even exhibit with the Group of Seven. She loved to paint the Eastern Townships, and many of her vibrant, liquid paintings can be viewed at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. However, she is most known for her portraits of women, and two of them are featured on these new Canadian stamps; “Rollande” and “At the theatre”. Prudence Heward was still painting up to two years before her death at the relatively young age of 51.
